A substack about the politics of energy, climate and environment as the UK heads towards its next General Election
This is Election Energy.
Election Energy is a regular newsletter on the biggest issues facing UK climate and energy politics and policy. It’ll feature economics, public opinion, and probably quite a lot of political snark. I’ll include some of my writing from elsewhere, links to the best things I’ve read, and hopefully fresh insights on where things are heading. Paid subscribers will get access to rapid reactions to news and events, and interviews with other leading thinkers, as well as more to come.
Subscribe to get full access to the newsletter and website. Never miss an update.

Who am I?
I’m a Director of Energy and Environment at the policy and insights firm Public First, as well as an Associate Fellow at IPPR specialising in green industrial policy. Previously I was head of economy at the environmental think tank Green Alliance, an adviser to the Labour Party, a senior adviser to Tony Blair, and led on Brexit and industrial strategy for the Wellcome Trust. Outside of work I’m a member of the foreign affair’s think-tank Chatham House’s Governing Council, a school governor in Camden, a trustee for Bristol Museums and a mentor with the Social Mobility Foundation.
